Tooo Coooollld
Jan. 10th, 2010 10:16 amIt's been a long cold few days. With temps down in the single digits at night (Minus digits for you Celsius folks) and no higher than low 20's (still minus digits for you Celsius Folks), the house has been very cold as we do not have central heat of any kind and the little portable electric heaters can only do so much. It's been layers of clothes and practically sitting right in front of a portable heater. Hands of been too cold to do much crochet.
We've also been without water since Thursday when our pipes froze and just to add fun to the mix, the power steering belt broke on the car Joe drives. Spent Thursday night out to get some jugs of water as well as some dinner and Friday after I got off work, out to get some pipe insulation, the power steering belt and dinner/lunch to tide us through till yesterday.
No luck trying to thaw pipes yesterday but did go to a friends where we could get hot hot hot showers and do a fast load of cold water wash for the layers of warm clothing we've been wearing. Even was warm enough there to knit for a while and got 28 rows completed on my Dr. Who scarf.
Today is supposed to get above freezing so hopefully, Joe can get car fixed for work tomorrow and pipes will thaw out.
Now to head back under blankets!

HSKS #3 Swap Questionnaire
Aug. 30th, 2007 08:46 pm1. What Hogwarts house have you been sorted into? HUFFLEPUFF
2. List your favorite double-point needle brands, including size and length. Or would you prefer circulars? DPN's Well, my dream set would be ebony wood needles. However, I use Clover and Brittany wood DPN's and Susan Bates metal. I NEVER use circulars :D
3. Would you like to try a new brand needle? If so, which brand? Size? Length? Lantern Moon Ebony Size US 8, 9 or 10 Usually 6 or 8 inch
4. If you are a RAVENCLAW, do you prefer the colors in the film or the book? Do you have a strong preference? N/A
5. Do you have any allergies? None
6. If you are swapping scarves - what is your desired length for the pattern? This will help your partner find the pattern that is just right for you and buy yarn accordingly. Well, I'm a large sized woman so whatever scarf pattern it is, I would need to make it long to go around my neck properly. Probably about 70" I would guess.

The Secret Project
May. 28th, 2007 06:30 pm...of
ofenjen and I can now be revealed. A group of us were going to Phoenix Rising and I had been thinking on IM one day that it would be so cool if you could find those autograph stuffed animals as owls. Jen suggested making them. She make and stuffed the owls and put on the beaks and feet. My dear husband, Joseph, made the hats, glasses and wands for me and glued on their eyes. I attached the hats, glasses and wands as well as knitted and attached house scarves and mini brooms and here they are.

Sunday, Sweet Bay & Music
Feb. 13th, 2007 07:53 amDiscovered that Sweet Bay Coffee House has celtic music on the second Sunday of the month from 2-4 pm. So the other day, we took ourselves up there and had a wonderful time.
Of course, had to have a cup of Cafe Au Lait to remind us of upcoming visits to Cafe Du Monde!

The musicians played a variety of celtic songs and instruments.

And if the bodhran player looks familiar, you've seen him in my photos from Kelt's where he plays the harp as well! And had some knitting with me, managing to complete the ribbed cuff for a hat while there.

Lady Macbeth even took off dancing to one of the more livelier numbers! (With a little help from the bodhran player's lovely wife, Norma!

A wonderful way to spend an afternoon!

Now on the needles is a hat

And got the back and fronts of the latest Molly done...even downed it some sizes and hopefully it will fit the size 3-5 that will be receiving it and have gotten this far on the sleeves.

It seems that a bank underestimates the quantity of knitters there are in this country ...... in this world. Some very creative ladies at Blue Moon Fiber Arts came up with a package for a sock club. This was not a new idea just for this year but had been something they sold previous years.
This bank took it upon themselves to decide that this could not be a real moneymaking business venture but a scam and you can read the gorey details in the blog of a famed Canadian knitter and published author.
It amazes me that the bank could think that there are so few knitters out there that would want to buy yarn and even have it come with the pattern as well. Obviously that's why there are no yarn stores around this nation.^_- I have to wonder, as did the blogger's sister, would this have happened to a male owned business?
Support Blue Moon Fiber Arts if at all possible. Knitter or crocheter? Order yarn, pattern, books. Not a crafter? Surely someone you love is and they will be having a birthday won't they? And spouse and significant others, if your partner knits or crochets, you know all too well how much they love yarn....contribute to their stash.
