I really haven't gotten a lot of crochet or crafting done since my last post with having some projects to deal with at work and Joe's being sick but there is some :D
Crochet goodness )

Halloween, derived from Samhain, is the time of year when the veil between two worlds is the thinnest. In my history, was my godmother/aunt, Ita Marie Breslin, who crocheted ever since I can remember. She never used patterns, she just saw in her mind what she wanted and set to work. The gold hat is one she made for my mother years ago. Wednesday, 7 October 2009, 'Aunt' Ita crossed over to the otherside of the veil.

100_3544

In the past couple of nights since learning this, I sat down and reconstructed the hat as a tribute to her ability, crafting and love.

So I present Breslin's Beret orginally designed by Ita M. Breslin in the 70's. Pattern available here

So I haven't really posted what I've been up to since my trip to Memphis, except for a couple of projects. Time to show you what I've been accomplishing :D Err, and yes, these are all only since I came back the beginning of July

Just finished and posted my HPKCHC Astronomy Assignment!

August Ferdinand Möbius (November 17, 1790 – September 26, 1868) (German pronunciation: [ˈmøbiʊs]) was a German mathematician and theoretical astronomer. He was born in Schulpforta, Saxony-Anhalt, Germany and died in Leipzig. He is best known for his discovery of
the Möbius strip, a non-orientable two-dimensional surface with only one side when embedded in three-dimensional Euclidean space. It
was independently discovered by Johann Benedict Listing around the same time.
The crater Möbius on the Moon's far side is named after him.
The asteroid 28516 Möbius is also named after him.

So, it is only fitting that my astronomy assignment should be the [Marbled Mobius][2] done in Yarn Bee Aurora Nightglow colorway which is a red/purple combination with glitter/twinkle effect

Even though I've been travelling, I've still be keeping up with classes on the HPKCHC and the Herbology assignment. was

Wand Trees
This month we will be learning about wand trees. Students should knit, crochet or spin something that relates to the tree that your personal wand’s wood came from. Be sure to include a brief explanation including which tree and how your project connects, especially if it isn’t obvious.
Traditional wand trees are holly, hawthorn, oak, vine, willow, ash, mahogany, yew, and elder but others are accepted.
Bonus points will be given for providing details about your personal wand that include wood, length, core material and flexibility (for example your professor’s wand is redwood, 14”, resilient, containing the hair of a Pacific mermaid), as well as an explanation of why your wand’s wood is right for you.
My wand is
Wood: Ebony & Bloodwood
Core: Dragon Heartstring
Length: 12 1/2"
Strength: Sturdy
Maker: Whirlwood Wandmakers

This wand found me when I met the chief wandmaker in Chicago last year. The woods were my favorite colors, the dragon heartstring from the magical creature that is my patronus and totem. It was as if the wand had been waiting for me to come to it and I did

I made the scarf below from a variegated yarn that illustrates it so perfectly.

The black and red = ebony and bloodwood
The purple so reminds me of the many faceted jewel eyes of a dragon
The black eyelash = the dragon heartstring.

You know it was a successfully while night when someone needs to make a doctor's appointment afterwards to recover!

Today was rather quieter with more friends of [personal profile] lady_karelia  coming by for beef and greenbeen curry and naans. More wine. Managed to hem [personal profile] lady_karelia 's cloak which [personal profile] calypsobard pinned up for us yesterday. Crochet, and continuing on with the cheese making.

Tomorrow is Beale St
*insert screaming dialup here* )

I haz Memphis Tennessee

After a 5 hour drive that was nice, good weather and uneventful.

And a great time at [personal profile] lady_karelia 's tonight.  We've had the most wonderful Indian dinner courtesy of her husband who is a fabulous cook!  Pappadums, rice, vegetable curry, paneer (indian cheese) curry, chicken curry.  Add some wine.  Some wonderful friends like [personal profile] calypsobard  and socially_awkrd as well as blue_paris and  frineds who are totally great of [personal profile] lady_karelia 's family and it's been a perfect evening.

I'm learning how to make feta cheese which is not as difficult as I thought it could be.

Listening to Gotan Project playing currently and working on some crochet as we finish the evening with butterbeers.

Can't ask for a better vacation.

Tomorrow proves to be just as good
