It's amazing how fast time flies. One minute their a newborn, so small and cute in your arms and the next you're packing to travel to their College Senior Soccer Game in a few days. *bilnks*

I've been travelling a good amount over the past two years between family events, conferences or visiting friends. A funny thing happened in all of this travelling, I've discovered my packing methods are nothing like they used to be. Previously, for a trip of a few days, I'd have a garment bag for hanging clothes, suitcase for other clothing, one for shoes, one for personal/hba items. I'd have a tote with a couple of books in it, maybe one or two small crochet projects.

Over these past two years, how that has changed. I still have the garment bag with my hanging clothes but now I shove everything else into the pockets, including one change of shoes so that extra suitcase is gone. Still got the personal/hba items bag - have to have that! But before you think about congratulating me on packing lighter, realize that the one tote bag as described above is no longer with me, well not like it used to be.

That tote bag now has the current project I'm in the midst of that's portable and easy to pull out no matter where I am. Be it waiting for my meal to come, standing in line waiting to check out, sitting in a traffic jam waiting to continue on.

It's those other two or three bags of crafty goodness that have seemed to taken over my packing list. After all, there has to be back up projects for when I finish that one in the tote. Then there's the fact that while sitting at where ever I'm staying in the evenings or mornings, I could pull out those larger projects that aren't quite so portable by still able to come with me. Of course, want to make sure you have the right hooks so in go the rollup cases with those in them and the small pencil box holding darning needles and stitch markers. That one tote has now exploded into the tote, one large Ikea style tote bag of additional projects, and a small weekender suitcase (yes the one that used to hold shoes) with extras in it

This may sound insane to you if you're not a crafter but the oddest thing is, many projects have been finished or at least had great progress made on previous road trips and that spurs me on to take them with me. After all, aren't most trips for relaxing and having a good time. Why leave home something that relaxes me so much?

...or in this case starts :D

I'm sitting at my friend's kitchen table in Glenwood AR waiting for 5 pm to leave and head on to Little Rock for the Metallica concert tonight! (a birthday present from my hubby in Sept!) So excited, nervous, looking forward to it! And once it starts....

Nothing else matters :D
dragonsinger: (bella luck wmd)
if hubby could join me there too :)  Finally home and glad to see Joe again.  But missing all my friends soooooo very very much.

Of course, it seems I can't get home without some excitement in my life....

And that is what was left of my tire after it shredded/blew out at milemarker 14 on I-65 south in Kentucky Tuesday night/Wednesday morning at 12:30 a.m. :D  Fortunately was only going 55 due to construction and able to pull car to shoulder.  Called 911 asked for an emergency vehicle of some kind to provide more flashers besides my 4 ways till Geico could send a tow truck.  Wonderful woman who not only had all her flashers on but also helped explain to Geico the problem with towing out of this particualr construction section back to closest place as opposed to the Walmart at exit 2.  Turns out she's a HP fan and, Cowgirl, don't forget to send me your addy cause I am totally making you that Molly sweater I promised you that night.

Got tires on at Walmart (ended up getting 2 since if 1 went, I wasn't sure I wanted to trust the other one on the front as we got them the same time.

Terminus?  Wonderful, amazing, awesome!

Details and photos later once I get caught up

........... Just like last year I'll be on the road again......

Ok not quite like last year as I'll not be making a trip from Virginia to NOLA and back.  I will however, be leaving here after work tomorrow (probably around 2ish) and heading to my mom's in SW Virginia.  Monday we leave there and head up to Essex County NJ.  She wants to check on the tombstone, visit some friends a bit more than we were able to last year.  Going to show the kids around the 'old neighborhood' in Belleville.  Authentic fish n chips in Kearny!  Returning to Virginia on Friday and heading back this way on Saturday with a stop over at [profile] jennbrad52's :D

So if there's anyone tomorrow/saturday along Interstate 40 from Little Rock to Nashville or Interstate 65 from Nashville to Kentucky (till I get to one of the parkways to head toward Lexington and Interstate 64...  Let me know if you'd want to have coffee to keep me awake when I take a break driving!

Currently spending what's left of the night in Cleveland TN on way to NOLA

Of course, it's been busy here with Jonathan's graduation Friday night, Dad's Memorial Mass Saturday night, Mother's Day Sunday.  While we thought yesterday would just be somewhat laid back and a couple of local errands, Mom and I ended up picking up my one daughter, Eileen at her work (Covington Walmart) to head for Lewisburg WV Walmart for yarn.  I ran out of carrot for the Mollys I'm working on and her store was out of it.  They had it so we went.  Mom treated us to dinner at Bob Evans and then we just did the shopping we needed or wanted to do before heading back home last night.

Along with that, a few photos under the cut to show you how I've filled my time since arriving here Friday morning.
dragonsinger: (blackrose)

Well, here I am currently in Virginia on Saturday morning.  Left Oklahoma at about 1 p.m. (Central time) and it was not too bad a drive…. Long but not bad.  Had a nice dinner with Kelly from Fangirlish in Memphis at Cracker Barrel – thanks, Kelly and see you Thursday !!!!!  By the way did you know there is not one nor two exit 12’s off I 40 in Memphis but FOUR????!!!  O_O  Yep.  Four 12 a – White Sta. Road;  12b – Sam Cooper Blvd; 12 c – I 40 (yea just add to the confusion people lol) and 12 which was the one I wanted in the first place but had to drive in circles on the others before I finally figured out how their four exit 12’s worked :D

Arrived at my mom’s at around 10ish Friday morning.  Thought I’d take a nap but didn’t really happen.  However, some lunch, hot shower, crochet on some molly sleeves and I was feeling pretty decent.  Which meant time to head up to DSLCC for the graduation ceremony.  Arrived early to save seats and of course, since I was sitting there any way, packed a small tote with camera, wallet, skein of yarn and hook!  Between waiting to start and listening to speeches, I got the back panel of one Molly over half done!!!

Love the fact the ceremony opened and closed with the faculty and grads being led in and out by the Virginia Highland Pipe and Drum Brigade!  Bagpipes!!!

Yesterday, a friend from Richmond came in to see Mom and I and attended a mass at Mom’s church in Dad’s memory.  It went well.

My kids took us both out for Mother's Day today and then a trip to Walmart where I picked up more Molly yarn *coughcoughnoShaenotaddictedcoughcough*

Tomorrow is errands and Hoping to post some pics of the graduation.

On the trip home, stopped in West Virginia at a thrift shop for a break and found an awesome Arthur Weasley type sweater for Joe!

:D  SQUEE!
dragonsinger: (world)
Ok, you know all those photos I would have posted over the past two weeks while I was in Virginia if I had brought the right camera cord with me?  Well here they are!

The coffee shop in Covington.  A really nice place with wifi and good coffee and food.

My son joined his sister and I there.
Of course no trip would be complete without Lady Macbeth and Vladimir the Puffskein :D

Also went to the community college some days and as you can see Jonathan and his friends have fun in their spare time :D

And in the evenings, I crocheted as you can tell from the 50 ashies, 2 molly sweater backs, and 4 molly front panels :D

And what has to be the most wonderful desk set up I've ever found in a motel.  It was at the News Inn, in Bowling Green where I stopped the first time I headed home last weekend.

Home again

Managed to stop in Memphis for supper and spend time with Kelly. Thought I would make it all the way home last night but between being more tired then I thought, lightening, sporadic downpours -- I ended up getting a room after all (yea yea yea I know you told me so Kelly :D ROFL)  Then woke up 3:30 am sick.  and was up and down all night so changed 6:30 wake up call to 9:00 and got home about 90 minutes ago.

So glad to be back and will up date and post photos later

... for my wireless connection today.  DSLCC.  It's where I attended and got my AAS in Business Mgmt in 1991 before going on for my BA elsewhere.  And where my son is graduating in May.

Met some of his friends who are really cool and into things I am too.  HP, Anne Rice, music wise.  And they now think he has a really cool mom :D

Dad's about the same.....  though he did sleep through most of the night which was good for mom as it mean't she got to as well.  Still planning on heading back home Saturday afternoon if nothing happens by then.

Have taken pics of coffee shop, Jonathan playing vid games here, Lady M at the coffee shop and here.  The crocheting I've gotten done........... and when I went to upload them this afternoon found out I had the cord to my old camera not this nice new one.  The cord for this is hanging out of the computer at home ^_-  So much for that but will post photos upon return home.

However, have finished the last of 200 Ashies...did 40 since arriving here.  Finished the back to one Molly and half of a second back.  Will be working on that when I get back to mom's.

Miss you all

*stares and reads comments over past two days and mutters "In public cafe will not cry" over and over and over*

So far I'm not...but it was amazing to log on and see all these wishes. It means alot ...

Dad's eating very little, mostly soft, but you can see how hard he has to work to breathe. If nothing happens by Saturday, I'll return home and come back May 10th as planned (son gets AAS on 11th) prior to Phoenix Rising. Then down to NOLA. If anything happens between now and then, Mom plans for us to go after PR (will come back here) to take ashes to NJ for interment in family plot. Otherwise, I will return again after May.

There is nothing more doctor can do for him. Anything would be prolonging and he does not want that. Yesterday, he did not want to be 'touched'. He let mom brush his hair but 'grumbled'. He can speak one or two words before becoming winded again.

Hospice coming in to change bandage on small sore on his back and I'm up at the wireless coffee shop in Covington, VA about 13 mi from there apartment to catch up emails and check in.

Thank you all so much for the encouragement here.

Been reading flist and commenting where I can and miss you all
dragonsinger: (Default)
I logged on this morning after arriving in Virginia and was surprised at the comments... Not that you all would not make them just people I never knew read my LJ ............. It was very very welcome after driving 16-17 hours.

It is easier time wise for me as I am in an internet cafe about 13 miles from my parents' apartment to just answer them all here instead of all of them individually !  So many and such a support to me right now.

As for Dad, he's about the same as when I left Oklahoma 3:15 pm CST yesterday.  Arrived here in Virginia at 10 a.m. Too early for him to be surprised (that's what he'll be told, I just felt like surprising him.  He's not aware quite how bad it is.)   So have met kids at a internet coffee shop and we're having a breakfast, lunch??????????  hmmm not sure what meal I'm up to now :D Lol

Will be here till at least Saturday and if no change will head back home until May when I was coming anyway.

Will update as soon as I can/have something

Hugs and love and many thanks to all of you!

Spent this weekend on the road-- literally.  Left very early Saturday morning for Jackson, KY where we spent Saturday evening enjoying time with the Jackson Christian Church members and Joe preached Sunday morning.  Had a nice surprise when we looked outside our hotel room Sunday morning:

and

And the church is really nice

Found a very interesting home coming through Lexington!

and I never knew Lexington KY was so close to Eastern Europe!

But it is good to finally be back home after over 1700 miles driving!

So [profile] jewells68 and I have been waiting for our Phoenix Rising house assignments for a while now.  [profile] jewells68 a bit longer than I have.  They said the heads of house send them out once a month. Apparently that month of waiting is up for [profile] jewells68 on Monday.  My month a few days past.  Since we don't know which house ljs to post in for now, I've found things to occupy my time as I patiently, somewhat patiently, kinda patiently, totally impatiently wait for my assignment to come in my email!  With apologies to the Scarecrow, TinMan and Cowardly Lion

If I Only Had ...... a House  (to the tune of If I Only Had A Brain)

I could while away the hours
Conferrin' with the others
Postin' in the thread
And my uniform, I'd be fixin'
While my plans were busy mixin'
If I only had a house.

I'd listen to ev'ry fiddle
For any song
In Zodico house you see
With the music you'd be thinkin'
We'd be drummin' and be singin'
If we only had a house.

Oh, I could tell you why
The Lumien pirates are ashore,
I could think of where treasure was before
And then I'd sit and drink some more.

I would not be just a nuffin'
I could be Bellereve or sumfin'
My page all full of words.
I would paint and be merry
As a Pontalbon ding-a-derry
If I only had a house--Whoa!
